The Hoover Dam – A Great Budget Friendly Attraction

The Hoover Dam…it holds water. How could that possibly be interesting? Trust us! This is a great budget-friendly attraction to add to your vacation if you’re in the nearby area.

Not only does the dam have a rich history, it’s an engineering marvel.

Affordable Admission

Located about forty minutes from Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam is an easy drive. It’s also very affordable to visit. You have two options – a guided tour of the dam for $30 or a power plant tour for $15. Of course these prices are subject to change. Here is a link to their website for the most current information: Hoover Dam Website .

On-site Parking

While parking at the facility is not free, it isn’t outrageous. It is definitely worth the $10 parking fee to park in the garage located on site.

A Rich History

We did the power plant tour and were amazed at the things we learned. This history behind the building of the dam is incredible. The structure was built during one of the lowest times in our country’s history – The Great Depression. With the cost and availability of materials during that time, it’s surprising the project was even completed.

From round the clock work schedules to round the clock supply deliveries, the effort that went into building the Hoover Dam was incredible. And, no one is better at telling the story of the creation of this modern wonder than the tour guides. These people are passionate about their jobs and it shows. We had a phenomenal experience!

We highly recommend visiting the Hoover Dam.

And remember, break the monotony, not the bank.
