We visited Zion National Park. Here are some things you should know before you go.
As of this time, reservations are not required to visit Zion. This makes planning your trip just a bit easier. You don’t have to worry about open park dates lining up with your PTO or school schedule.
We still highly recommend checking the website frequently. It’s a good idea to check it in advance of your trip as well as several days before and the day of you It is full of important road and trail closures and weather information. Keep in mind there is little to no cell reception inside the park. Make sure to do your online research ahead of time.
One of our favorite words at BTT, “FREE”. We love free perks like a shuttle service that takes you to all of the major highlights of the park, or at least within a short walking distance. And, Zion National Park’s shuttle is fantastic. It will even drop you off close enough to take a short hike to the famous Narrows!
Want to see the highlights of the park quickly? This is a great way. Simply hop on the shuttle and do the full loop. The views are amazing!
Wow! Switchback roads are a thing at Zion. When driving on these tricky roads slow down, obey the speed limit, and enjoy the stunning views.
Being from Florida, switchback roads are rather intimidating to us. We were a little uneasy (terrified) driving on them. It’s especially scary if you’re the person in the passenger seat. This vantage point makes you feel like your car moves one inch too far to the right and you will be topping down the side of a mountain. It isn’t really that close. It just appears that way. Let’s just say there were more than a few disagreements about who would be driving on these roads.
Zion National Park is less than 80 miles to Bryce Canyon National Park. (Be sure to check out our post about Bryce Canyon here.
The park is also less than three hours from Las Vegas, making Vegas a good home base if you want to explore some of the highlights of the western U.S. Combining the two parks can make a great long weekend trip!
