We Visited Istanbul, Turkey And it Was Budget Friendly! (Part 2)

Istanbul, Turkey is an amazing budget-friendly international travel destination. Follow along as we share more of Jeff’s adventures through a city steeped in history, art, culture, and cats.

Markets in Istanbul

Be sure to check out the markets when you visit Istanbul. These community specific bazaars offer a an endless variety of items. You can find everything from locally sourced fruits and vegetables to gold. And, the prices are unbelievable! While the prices are great, they can get even better. Practice your bartering skills with the local shop keepers. You may just walk out with your items at rock-bottom prices!

American Food Abroad

One of the funny things about traveling abroad is finding touches of home. Familiar fast food is one of the things that you can find in many countries across the world, and Turkey is no exception. Jeff got a laugh out of walking into a mall in Istanbul and finding several restaurants that are very common in the U.S. He even grabbed a bite at Popeyes. And, his meal was a third the price of the same meal at home!

Cats Rule the Land

We love cats! We have two fur babies of our own. So, when we see cats treated well abroad it makes our hearts happy. Istanbul will make any cat lover’s heart soar. Felines rule the land in Turkey. They are everywhere! And, they are very well treated. The cats are spayed and neutered, have shelters throughout the city for refuge from weather, and are loved by all (or most). Be sure to check out our latest video on YouTube to see some funny cat encounters. Check out the video here!

Bus Station Food

Fabulous food can be found everywhere in Turkey…even in the bus stations. The best part about the food is that it is budget friendly. While waiting for a bus, Jeff was able to grab a Gyro and a drink for under $3. That’s a bargain! As people who travel on a budget, it’s always a treat to be able to get quality food at an affordable price.

Turkey is a budget-friendly travel destination that has it all: art, history, culture, food. Be sure to follow along as we share Jeff’s journey throughout the country.
