How to Save Money When Traveling Domestically

Want to save money while traveling domestically? We’ve got you! We have some tips and tricks to help you make the most of your budget for your next domestic vacation.

Is it Cheaper to Book Round-Trip or Two One-Way Tickets?

Do your research and weigh your options. Sometimes it may be cheaper to book two one-way flights rather than one round-trip. It’s worth a little comparison shopping to see which is less expensive for you. This can be a great way to save when traveling domestically.

Use Hotel Booking Apps

We have used hotel booking apps for years. We often compare prices among various apps. This little bit of extra effort can save $20 or more per night. That adds up quickly!

Don’t forget some credit cards offer discounts on hotels!

Be sure to check the benefits on your credit card to see if they offer travel discounts. We have booked hotels through our credit card and not only saved on the room, but earned airline miles in the process! That’s a great bonus for your next adventure.

Check for Hidden Fees

Be sure when you are booking a room that you read all the fine print. There can be lots of little, and some not so little, hidden fees. Parking is one of the big ones. This can be a substantial cost. Most parking fees begin at around $25 per night. This gets expensive quickly. If you don’t see this fee in the description of the hotel you are looking at, be sure to give them a quick call and ask. Also be aware that most hotels charge resort fees as well. Ask questions before you book!

Driving? Make Sure You Have Some Sort of Road Side Assistance

If you are driving to your destination, this can save you a lot of money. One flat tire or dead battery can make it worth what you pay for road side assistance. Having your car towed is very expensive. This little bit of insurance can save you a great deal of money. We have road side assistance included in our auto insurance package. There are other options such as AAA. It’s a good idea to make sure you have something in place before heading out on the open road, even if you’re in a rental.

Are You a Teacher? Consider Destinations Where Teachers Get Free Admission

Believe it, or not, there are many places that offer free admission for teachers. Check your destination to see if they offer any type of discount for educators. We are working on some upcoming YouTube Shorts and FB and Instagram reels about this topic.
