Travel shoes – a topic near and dear to my heart. Shoes can literally make, or break, your trip.
A Step (or vacation) in the Wrong Direction
Wearing uncomfortable shoes while traveling can quickly make a fun adventure miserable. The wrong shoes can cause blisters, make your feet ache, and even make your back and legs hurt.
A Step (or vacation) in the Right Direction
Having comfortable shoes that fit well can make all the difference in your trip. To quote the great Marilyn Monroe, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world”. It’s true. Good shoes can keep you on your feet longer and make you feel better at the end of a ten mile day.
Aren’t Good Shoes Expensive Though?
Good shoes do not necessarily mean a high price. You can find shoes that are supportive and comfortable at a reasonable price. It is possible to find quality shoes at a discount price. Be sure to check stores like Ross, TJ Max, and Marshall’s. They frequently get quality shoes and sell them at significantly discounted prices.
While you can find good shoes at a discount, remember that the shoes you wear when you travel are an investment. They are going to keep you comfortable and happy as you see the world.
What Kind of Shoes Work Best?
Shoes are different for everyone because everyone’s feet are very different. What works well for one person may not work for another. I love my Altras and Jeff loves his Hokas. (This is not an endorsement. Just letting you know what we prefer in case you’re looking to try different shoes.)
Personally speaking we both prefer athletic shoes. We find that they tend to be the most comfortable and practical. That being said, you have to find what works best for you. The shoes need to be both supportive and comfortable. Also, make sure you allow a little extra room in the toe area, but ensure the heel doesn’t slip.
What you choose to wear on your adventure is completely up to you. Go out and try on a lot of different shoes. Don’t limit yourself to just one brand or one specific style. In fact, a visit to a running store can be a good idea. Running stores are knowledgeable and able to help you find the right fit. Once you find the right one you’ll know!
I recently purchased a a new pair of shoes for travel. Check out my adventure here.
