We Went to Saqqara, Egypt!

We went to Saqqara, Egypt and it was amazing!

From the oldest pyramid in Egypt to hieroglyphics that are as beautiful as the day they were carved, Jeff found that this Egyptian city has a lot to offer visitors.

Do you love all things historical, ancient art, or you’re seeking a little bit of adventure? Saqqara should be on your Must Do list.

Djoser’s Pyramid

This pyramid is the oldest in Egypt…and, it’s surprisingly still intact. But, that’s not all. This pyramid is constructed in a tiered format (Step Pyramid), something that is not typical of Egyptian pyramids. The structure is estimated to be over 5,000 years old!

Art

One of the amazing things that both the pyramids and mastabas have in common is the amazing art inside of the structures. Whether it’s hieroglyphics, reliefs, or relics buried with the inhabitant of the burial site, a lot of the art has surprisingly withstood the test of time.

Pyramid Ruins

Ruins of former pyramids are evidence of all the things the structures have endured over time. Although some have been lost to weathering and earthquakes over the years, others have been destroyed by rulers who felt themselves to be more important than honoring any rulers of the past.

Tomb of Ptahhaotep II

This tomb is a beautiful example of history and art surviving over the years. The reliefs and colored depictions in this tomb are shining examples of early Egyptian art. The scenes tell the story of Ptahhaotep II’s life as a person of notoriety.
