Are you hitting the open road in search of adventure? We have some tips and tricks you need to know before going on a roadtrip. Here we go!
Are you about the journey or destination?
Before you take off decisions must be made. Do you want to take the scenic route or just get straight to your destination?
Actually, you could do both. Take one route going and the other coming home.
Consider renting a car.
This can help save putting miles on your own car. And, you may be able to get a significant discount. A lot of school districts and businesses are more than willing to share their corporate discount with employees. This can add up to big savings!
Book hotels online.
We have always had great luck with hotel booking sites. A little research and a few price comparisons can save you a lot of money. If you’re roadtripping to an event remember to book your hotel well in advance. Hotel prices will only go up the closer you get to the date of the event.
Get all the snacks!
It’s true. Half the fun of a road trip is the snacks…and the soundtrack, of course. You can stock up on a few favorites in bulk at Sam’s Club or Costco. Pick up some goodies along the way – local specialties. Oh! And, if you happen to be near a Bucees, you neeeeeed to visit. Bucees is in a class by itself. It is the ultimate snack stop. Need brisket? They have it. Need a new insulated cup? They have them. Need new clothes? Yep, they have those too. Just do yourself a favor and stop by.
Driving directions are a must.
Make sure you have reliable directions by using one of the many apps available. We use a variety of different apps. Waze will usually give you basic directions even if you lose signal. You just may not be able to access the frills of the app.
It’s always a good idea to print your driving directions just to be on the safe side.
Driving to Canada or Mexico? Have your passport handy.
While you can cross the borders in your car, it still requires a passport. This applies to everyone in your vehicle. Make sure all passports are up to date.
